The Future of Virtual and Augmented Travel

The Tomorrow Tourism Symposium, scheduled for Saturday, September 7th, is set to unite professionals from the immersive technology, tourism education, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sectors. The event aims to address both the challenges and prospects that technological advancements pose to the travel industry. Hosted at the Future Hub, an innovative laboratory within the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, this comprehensive day-long event will provide attendees with a forward-looking perspective on tourism. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the future landscape of the tourism industry and engage in collaborative efforts to develop and educate the upcoming generation of tourism experts.

Call for Short Video Presentations: The Future of AR, VR, MR, and AI in Tourism

We are thrilled to announce an open call for short video presentations for the upcoming Tomorrow Tourism Symposium, taking place on Saturday, September 7th. This symposium aims to gather visionaries and practitioners at the intersection of technology and tourism, focusing on the transformative potential of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.

Who Can Participate?
- Researchers studying the impact and possibilities of AR, VR, MR, and AI in tourism.
- Developers engaged in designing immersive experiences tailored for the tourism industry.
- Students utilizing these technologies for learning, projects, or innovation in tourism.
- Tourism Professionals who have encountered or implemented these technologies in real-world settings.

Presentation Topics:
We are looking for stories that showcase the application, challenges, innovations, and visions of AR, VR, MR, and AI technologies in tourism. Your presentation could cover, but is not limited to:
- Case studies of technology implementation in tourism experiences.
- Innovative projects or research findings in the realm of immersive technologies.
- Personal experiences or observations of how these technologies enhance tourism.
- Forecasts and insights on the future integration of these technologies in the MICE industry.

Submission Guidelines:
- Length: Videos should be between 3 to 10 minutes.
- Format: Please shoot your video in a 16:9 ratio to ensure consistency across presentations.
- Content: Videos should be informative, engaging, and relevant to the theme of using AR, VR, MR, and AI in tourism settings.
- Deadline for Submission: All videos must be uploaded to our system by August 31st, 2024.

How to Submit:
Instructions for uploading your video will be provided upon registration. Please visit our symposium website to register your interest in participating and to access the video submission portal.

Utilizing Your Contributions:
The collected video presentations will be a cornerstone of the Tomorrow Tourism Symposium, contributing to a collective narrative on the trends, challenges, and opportunities of AR, VR, MR, and AI technologies in the tourism industry. Through your stories, we aim to inspire, educate, and foster collaboration among symposium attendees and the wider tourism community.

In-Person Participants

Given the intimate nature of the hands-on sessions and the interactive demos, space at the Future Hub is limited. We aim to curate a diverse group of attendees who are as passionate about the future of tourism technology as we are.

Our VR platform will allow both in-person and virtual attendees to interact with one another in a simulated environment, mirroring the innovation at the heart of our discussions. This immersive experience will not only enhance your understanding of how these technologies are being used in tourism but also offer you a firsthand glimpse into the future of travel and events.

Future Tourism Leaders Workshop 2023

The Future Tourism Leaders Workshop (FTLW) was designed for tourism leaders who are currently enrolled in a tourism program (undergraduate to postgraduate), have recently completed their tourism studies, and young professionals in the related fields who have demonstrated outstanding leadership or for those who are about to join the tourism workforce and entrepreneurial, and innovative skills throughout their studies and previous work experience. In addition, the workshop aims to serve as a platform for these aspiring leaders to expand their knowledge and to share ideas with similar-minded professionals from the region.

This event, partnered with the UNWTO, JICA, and the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies was held on March 8 & 9, 2023. You can watch recordings of the event on our YouTube channel.
